Cricket is a game of uncertainties, so is Politics. While the game of Cricket is uncertain because adventure or misadventure both can happen within an over. A batsman can hit six sixes in an over and become Sixer Sidhu or a full team of 10 batters can be rolled out for 35 runs (Zimbabwe in 2004). But, in politics, it is not about how you play the opposite player, it is uncertain because of the uncertainty of the player him/herself. He or she may switch sides at any given time, circumstance or excuse, and become Skittish Sidhu. As Supriyo Baral proudly said, ‘it’s all about being in the playing eleven’. The only difference, by the way, between cricket and politics is in cricket, the selectors can anytime pick and drop a player; but in politics, the electors do not have the same privilege.
Nowadays, politics, especially opposition politics is giving a tough competition to the scriptwriter of Ekta Kapoor serials. Don’t miss even a between-the-break segment of an episode or you can end up confused about the relationships among the characters.
It is the Change-the-CM season of Indian politics. The Bharatiya Janata Party has already changed Chief Ministers of three states ruled by them successfully. After that, the media was vocal about the Bench strength of the BJP. Congress too wanted to display the same kind of strength to the media. For the last seven years, the congress party has demanded resignations from almost every BJP minister. But this time, they end up sending notices to the Punjab CM Captain Amrinder Singh. Not once, not twice, but for the third time. Fedup captain ultimately threw the resignation to the Congress ‘High’ command after the Skittish Sidhu was made the State Chief of the Party. Sidhu was about to pick up that resignation letter and claim the CM post. But Charanjit Singh Channi hit the ball out of the park this time. Sidhu was in the playing eleven, but his ambitions were a bit bigger than that of Supriyo Baral. He wanted to bat. So, he resigned.
Now that Captain Amrinder Singh has approached BJP and met UHM Amit Shah and NSA Ajit Doval and has plans to meet PM Modi too, Skittish Sidhu has two options left. He’ll go back to Congress after some drama as he did in 2019, sending resignation to Rahul Gandhi when the Party Chief was Sonia Gandhi, or he will try to join Aam Admi Party under Kejriwal and provide him with an opportunity to choose between smelling high and chattering high. The second option is a little bit distant as Arvind Kejriwal is way better ‘Dramabaz’ than the Singh and Kaur Navjyot Sidhus put together. So, Sidhu going back to Congress with a confirmation of him being the CM candidate in the 2022 Assembly Election is more likely.
