Afghan Food Shortage

Afghanistan, which is living under the fear of the Taliban, is getting trapped in a deep swamp day by day. Taliban terrorists are going to form the government in Afghanistan with the help of guns and bullets. But the Taliban has forgotten that it is easy to fire a gun than to run a country. At the moment, the fast coming challenge before the Taliban is the starvation-like situation in Afghanistan. People may save themselves from the bullets of the Taliban, but it seems impossible for the people to escape from hunger. Apart from this, the people of those houses where there are no men left are spending their lives in extreme difficulties. Because according to the decree of the Taliban, no woman can even go outside alone. By the end of September, the stock of the World Food Program(WFP), run by the United Nations, will run out, after which people will not even be able to get the least requirement of food and drink. Right now the situation in Afghanistan is so bad that one out of every three people does not know where to get food. People are raising money by selling their household items on the streets at very low prices, so that they can feed themselves and their families. Food and drink rates are skyrocketing in Afghanistan. You can guess the situation from the fact that a bottle of water near Kabul airport costs around ₹ 3000 and a plate of rice costs ₹ 7500.

A United Nations official has said that one-third of the population of Afghanistan is suffering from severe starvation. Afghanistan was already facing drought and in the coming months of the winter season, there is no hope for good cultivation. So, more money will be needed to deliver food to all the people. According to the World Food Program Office, out of a population of about 40 million, a serious food crisis has struck about 15 million people. The Taliban is brutally killing animals to feed their terrorists. But they are not worried about the general public. As soon as the Taliban came to power, institutions like the World Bank and the IMF have already closed all doors of aid to Afghanistan. All loans given to Afghanistan have been stopped. Afghanistan’s economy is dependent on foreign funds. It is being told that the Taliban will only get this when they allow women of their rights and make their land terror-free. The government of the terrorists is not thinking about the current economic situation and starvation in the country, but its terrorists are celebrating by firing in the air. The people of Afghanistan want to leave the country by any means. After the closure of the air route, people are reaching the borders of other countries after travelling hundreds of kilometres on foot, so that their lives can be saved.

The government of President Ashraf Ghani had withheld the salary of all the officers for several months due to financial constraints. Withdrawing salary from the economy, giving food to the people, is going to be a big challenge for the Taliban.

As a relief to the food shortage, the Taliban now wants India to supply them with food grains. They have requested India to export food grains, especially wheat, to Afghanistan on humanitarian grounds. But, exporting wheat or any food grain for that matter, will require them to be recognised by India first. India does not recognise the Taliban government. China or Russia too can send food grains to The Taliban. But the economic condition of Russia is not that strong and China itself is suffering from a food grain shortage.

Now it’ll be interesting to see, whether India makes the Taliban agree to their terms and then help Afghanistan or the Taliban succeeds to get help from elsewhere. The Taliban, who, just a day before, has issued a statement against India on the Kashmir issue, has suddenly felt that teasing India will not be a good option for them in future.
